I own that gem. Great story, and Shizuku Tsukishima is a fabulous heroine. It also featured the first appearance of The Baron from The Cat Returns. Miyazaki wrote the story, and Yoshifumi Kondo was the director, except for the fantasy scene which Miyazaki directed. That ended up being the only Ghibli film Kondo directed as he passed away suddenly 3 years later. It's a shame too, because Miyazaki and Takahata wanted him to be their successor. It truly is a masterpiece, so check it out sometime.
I personally like Shizuku from Whisper of the Heart. Although, probably only some people are familiar about that ghibli hidden gem.
