Well, in order to properly talk to the animals, she had to eat a certain green root. But she eats a red root by mistake (she forgot which one to eat), and she grows gigantic for a second, and then shrinks down to insect size. So she needs to find and eat that green root before sunset, otherwise she'll shrink even smaller.
