I agree, but outside of foot enthusiasts, I don't think she was very popular in Japan. She barely even scratched the top 15 in the popularity poll. There's also a reason why the presence of male characters have been more dominate of late.

Apparently Raihan has pretty much become God over there. Nintendo has landed themselves a bulging new audience with the female otaku (that may or may not have to do with ladies just having more time on their hands than normal, during lockdown). And they sure don't seem like they'll be going away anytime soon.
It is nice that Japan likes a black character that much. I assume that Raihan is supposed to be a handsome, young black guy, although with anime it is sometimes hard to tell.

They tend to associate being black or dark with this whole "bad boy" image, which Japaneses girls also find sexually arousing for some reason. I guess from being black myself, I just find it very, very bizarre, lel.
