Mei Lee is a confident, dorky thirteen-year-old torn between staying her mother's dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Whenever her emotions get the better of her (whether it be getting too excited or too scared), she turns into a giant red panda and has to calm herself in order to change back.
I watched the film. This Pixar flick is definitely not for families and small children. In general, the film is aimed at a very specific target group.

DeleteThere's a scene that blatantly implies having a period for the first time. It isn't the case, thank goodness, Mei has reached a point in life where her red panda form manifests, and all the daughters of her family receive this mystical ability.

Well apart from: "Turning Red is definitely a persuasive manifesto for “releasing the Red Panda” to be added to that list of menstruation euphemisms"(RS review). Reading almost every site saying 'finally a children's movie bold enough to tackle 'such and such'' was already enough of a red flag for me anyway.
