So, Kuma took her to Punk Hazard to see Dr. Vegapunk after searching for a cure of her disease. The scientist offered an experimental stem cell treatment for Bonney in exchange for using Kuma as a model for powerful clone soldiers. Kuma then agreed, prioritizing Bonney's life, with the soldiers being named the Pacifista. Then later, Saturn contacted Vegapunk and rejected Kuma as the face of the clone army because of these conditions: Kuma himself must become a Warlord, a cyborg weapon, and erase his free will as a human but Vegapunk angrily refused to accept that, but Kuma ended up agreeing to that too, sacrificing himself to ensure his daughter receive life-saving treatment before her 10th birthday.
