Vampire Knight: Shizuka Hio

Shizuka Hio is a pure blood vampire. She was responsible for turning the male lead in this anime Zero Kiryu into a vampire.

In Vampire Knight, Pure Blood vampires are really powerful. They are from the original vampire bloodline and stronger than normal vampires. Humans bitten by these vampires become vampires themselves. As a pure blood, Shizuka is able to make regular vampires obey her. This is particularly true in Zero's case since she was the one responsible for turning him.

In addition to that Shizuka is able to possess other willing subjects as well. She originally uses this ability to infiltrate Cross academy. She possesses one of the students Maria Kurenai to get close to Zero and Yuki. She also possesses enhanced strength and speed, and healing making her a dangerous foe to go up against.

Shizuka serves as one of the main antagonists of the first season but she comes off as sympathetic. She is out for revenge for the murder of a vampire she loved by vampire hunters. While she is cruel towards her enemies, she is shown to care about her servants rewarding them by using her blood to heal those that were sick. She is also known to play psychological mind games with her adversaries something that she does to both Zero and Yuki.

She winds up being an interesting and complicated character while a dangerous femme fatale at the same time. She also has one of the most heart stopping moments in anime history.
