Kokone is an android who works as a courier delivering messages and data to other towns and communities. She's shy and easily flustered, and becomes good friends with Alpha, and it's implied she has a crush on her too. (Fun fact, androids have data ports in their tongues they can use to interface with each other and other machines. So in order for Kokone to deliver her messages, she must kiss the recipient.)
Maruko is an android customer of Kokone's who becomes friends with her, and develops a crush on her as well. Discovering Kokone's friendship with Alpha initially makes her jealous, but she eventually comes around and grows closer to Alpha too.
Maruko and Kokone "sharing data."
Makki is a lively human girl who becomes friends with Alpha and the other androids as we watch her grow up over the course of the story.
The Misago (Japanese for "osprey") is a local legend of the area, a strange, wild woman who never ages and never wears clothes. She never speaks, and her fangs are known to scare people, but she doesn't mean any harm, and has a fondness for children.
And finally, there's another android who also happens to be called Alpha, who lives on an orbital colony high above the Earth called the Tarpon. She is very melancholy and misses life on the ground.
All in all, Yokohama Shopping Trip is an enjoyable read if you're looking for a slow-paced manga with chill atmosphere, fun comedy, and cute robot girls. Been awhile since I posted anything, but I've got another big post in the works. ^__^ See ya then.
