Makoto was raised as boy by her father and wants to become an idol so she can let her more feminine side out.  Still she's a tomboy and when 795 productions needs someone to portray a male character she is inevitably their choice.   Because of this she has more female fans than male.  In the second game it is revealed that she is accomplished in MMA.
