Gatekeeping from Being Freed
I know this has nothing to do with this foot scene on Lucy from FT but is gatekeeping art instead of making it widely available in different formats a bad thing? And is keeping it hostage for years until the rights expire or the licensor decides it's not worth the trouble to license out again and it becomes entirely unavailable whatsoever also a bad thing? I'm asking you this because the whole streaming jail thing is quite pathetic at times and not because the whole illegal piracy on watching anime online with no restrictions. How many times you heard the term, "____ Jail" in relation to anime streaming both TV series and movies? Something that is locked away from being seen unless you got a subscription to any streaming platform like Netflix, Hulu, HIDIVE, Crunchyroll, Disney+, etc.

Please, anybody who saw this, answer these questions.
ReplyDeleteWhat are you one about? I could only watch Tenchi Muyo on Toonami, Digimon on Fox kids and Pokemon on Kids WB. Channels did it all the time. But now it's call a jail...?
ReplyDeleteI was talking about availability on any anime shows or movies: old and new: both physically and digitally. Also, the whole jail thing is for those are regarding titles on any streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu and the lack of home video for most of them after a couple of years, this has also extended to Crunchyroll recently with the number of shows they have yet to release on disc that they have home video rights to.
Delete"Where did that jail term comes from?", I recall first hearing "____ Jail" in relation to anime streaming to describe the way some streaming services just expanding into the anime market would license an anime and then wait until after the season had finished airing so that they could release it all at once (part forcing the binge model, part waiting for the dubs to be finished). This long delay in release contrasted badly with how anime-focused streamers like Crunchy and Funimation had been handling releases, so anime it happened to be were treated as being locked away from the audience that wanted to legally watch them.
DeleteI've also seen the term "Disney Jail" used to refer to the belief that Disney's apparent apathy towards the anime they license (no official tweets advertising them, no real push in D+ recommendations, etc) was greatly reducing the potential growth of their fanbases.
Anyone who actually pays for "anime services" pretty much get what they deserve. You're correct that it's a pathetic scene however that's just what brand worshiping normalfags are willing to to put up with, I guess. I've pirated shit my whole life so I never have to put up with restrictive, lolicense mongering nonsense, with scummy holders that exploit their naive subscribers.
ReplyDeleteOh, and it isn't so much a "jail" for anime as much as it is a jail for YOU and how quickly you're parted with your own money for the inevitable enshittification.
I don't quite understand why that was the case. I mean, it depends on where you live in the world determines what content you would get in any streaming platform, some things released in the US aren't available in Canada or Germany while others get the same amount of stuff of anime shows and movies regardless. Are you into getting physical DVD/Blu-ray editions of the anime shows or movies you want?
DeleteAlso, what do you think about piracy if you can't or won't afford to pay any merchandise like DVD/Blu-ray or the shows you watched?
DeleteIt's like you haven't read anything I've said, I've pirated shit my whole life, I never buy any media. Not a single DVD, unless ripped, or bloo-ray in my house.
DeleteHey, it's not like I don't know HOW to read your comments. And I just wondering why you never did pay for anything. Are you telling me I'm stupid?
DeleteDid I explicitly say that? no.
DeleteI never pay for anything cause I'm a poorfag. I don't have to show my appreciation for anime by spending, even if I did, I cringe whenever I see those disc prices. Especially double dippers like Aniplex.
Yes. I do buy physical copies on the anime shows and movies. Maybe I'm just an moron.
DeleteAs long as you have the wherewithal, and aren't running your credit debt up like a junkie, there's no shame.
DeleteOK. Do you understand the whole Netflix jail, Disney jail, etc on recent anime shows and movies?
DeleteAlready stated right here:
Delete"Oh, and it isn't so much a "jail" for anime as much as it is a jail for YOU and how quickly you're parted with your own money for the inevitable enshittification."
Vote with your feet(no pun), and just stop throwing money at greedy hostage holders.
I see. We're foot lovers here.
