Atsuko is a young woman who lives and works in her mothers food store. Her mother is deeply in debt after her husband died and set up Atsuko for an arranged marriage to a wealthy young man named Minoru. Atsuko is opposed to this both because of the choice being taken away and the feeling Minoru is taking the proposal for granted. She also starts dating an older man named Kenji.
