Echo (Comics)

I know... it's been awhile. It was beginning to look like 2024 was another year where posting for me was unlikely but with Thanksgiving coming up... I couldn't resist doing a few tributes to Native American characters. First up is Echo from Marvel Comics ...

(These are from various Marvel Echo comics including Phoenix Song Echo mini-series and Daredevil Echo Vision Quest)

Maya Lopez aka Echo been gaining a lot of attention recently. She appeared in the Hawkeye Live action series and get her own series earlier this. Born deaf, she has the ability to copy other people's movement an ability she utilizes martial arts, dancing and music. She originally started as an antagonist for Daredevil. She was raised by the villain the Kingpin who made Maya believe her father had been killed by the Daredevil (In actuality the Kingpin was the one behind the murder). She fights Daredevil hoping to avenge her father's death but eventually learns the truth. She becomes a protagonist afterwards

Echo has a Cheyenne background and she is shown being able to have visions of the female ancestors within her tribe. She also later gains the ability the Phoenix force (similar to Jean Grey). It is worth noting that while Echo has a prosthetic leg in the live action series. Her comic book's counterparts legs and feet are luckily fully in tact.

Ok...I'm not quite done yet. In addition to Echo... I have a bonus character from the Phoenix Song Echo miniseries

Ohoyo Luak

Ohoyo is Echo's ancestor she was a previous host for the phoenix as well. Maya winds up traveling to the past and encounters her. She is shown to have a stronger control of the Phoenix power than Echo being able to control life and death with it. She wind up guiding Echo to use the Phoenix force more effective.
