Saber Rider and The Star Sheriffs: April Eagle

 April is the female lead who designed the transforming ship the star sheriffs pilot as well as her robotic horse "Nova".  Not only is she highly intelligent, she is athletic as well and thankfully one of her sports is judo.  The star sheriffs fight against a group of trans-dimensional beings known as the Outriders who want to conquer the human dimension.  In the original version of the show April was French and named Marianne Louvre.
