Lois Lane Super Tribute Part 5: Smallville (Erica Durance)

Ok...this is tough one, I'm not a huge fan of Erica Durance's Lois but I know she has her share of fans out there. For the sake of completion, here is a tribute to her...
In the Smallville series. This footwear stripping moment triggered Superboy's (Connor's) teenage harmones. I can't say that I blame him. ^_^
Yet another time a shoe falls off Lois feet mid-flight. If you are keeping track this is the 4th time in these bonuses so far.
(Various webfinds and caps of Erica Durance from Smallville. ^_^)

Ok I'll try to be objective. To her credit Erica does a good job playing Lois. Her performance sort of reminds me of Margot Kidder's.  A lot of my gripes about her character comes from Smallville's writing. Durance joined the cast in the latter half of the series and by then quality of the series' storylines had deteriorated dramatically. Character writing became inconsistent with behaviors varying dramatically from episode to episode. The writing of Smallville was never on the level of the series that proceeded it (see previous bonus) but by the end it was very hard to watch. The series still had a couple of episodes that were worth watching but many of them were disappointing at best. This opinion comes from someone who stood with the Smallville series from beginning to end. Added onto that, Lois sort of paled in comparison with some of the other women in the series. When Lois debuted, Clark was already in a very sweet relationship with Lana played with a tremendous amount of charm by Kristin Kreuk. The series had also established their own original character Chloe Sullivan (Lois's Cousin) as the charismatic reporter character. The writer of Smallville tried to get Lois to fill both roles (connecting her to her comic depiction) but it's hard to do that when the other characters were so well liked.

Those complaints aside, it doesn't change the fact that Erica Durance did the best with what she had to work with. There were a lot of scenes in the series where she genuinely made me smile. She also has a great body too. ^_^;

Ok...Let's end on that positive note!! More Lois Tributes still to come!

  1. I liked her as Lois well enough. :) She had some fun moments. But my opinion of Smallville overall is basically the same as yours. I really liked it at first, but by the end I just lost all interest and stopped watching by the beginning of the last season. :\ I will say, though, that the final scene of the last episode (the flash forward to the future) was very well done. :)

    1. Admittedly a lot of my problems involving this version of Lois comes from having a huge crush on Lana in this series. ^_^; Kristen Kreuk made her character so likable that it became very difficult for me to accept another love interest for Clark even if it followed comic continuity more accurately. I think that Erica Durance really did her best that she could with the part though and I can't fault her performance.

      Yeah I liked the ending of the series too. Smallville did have its share of homerun episodes. Usually the season finales were pretty good especially in the earlier seasons. They had me on the edge of my seat waiting for the new season to start. ^_^
